The Meaning of Love

love

Love is a complex emotion that encompasses a wide range of feelings. The emotion is usually associated with feelings of warmth and protectiveness, but can also refer to principles, religious beliefs, and non-human animals. Throughout history, philosophers have debated the meaning of love, which is not always an easy task. Nevertheless, most agree that love is an intense and energizing feeling that brings about strong feelings of affection and devotion towards another person or thing.

The most common definition of love is a feeling of attraction and affection toward another person. It’s a powerful emotion that can be expressed in many different ways, and can include any number of facets, including physical attraction and sexual desire. Although some people think that love is an emotion that can only be expressed by a man, it has no limit when it comes to defining it. For example, it can be described as liking an adult very much, sexual attraction or even a family member.

Research has shown that the brain regions responsible for intense romantic attraction are the same as those involved in addictions. A recent TED Talk by Helen Fisher outlined the relationship between the two parts of the brain. Another book on love by neuroscientist Dr. Guloglu describes how love can influence the way a person’s brain works. A love-afflicted person thinks about his or her beloved over 65 percent of the time. Whether this is love for its own sake or for the sake of survival, the science of love and attraction is well worth reading.
