What Is Love?

Love is a complicated concept. It can’t be defined in a few words, but there are some things you should know about it before committing to a relationship or declaring your love for someone else. It’s not about lust, or the unsustainable high of unsustainable chemical reactions and hormones (also known as “butterflies”). Love is an ongoing commitment to nurture relationships that help people change and grow into their best selves. It’s about honouring that commitment both to your partner and yourself, and putting in the time and effort to develop it.

Some people believe that love is a primary emotion that humans feel on a constant basis, like happiness or anger. Others think that it is a complex emotion derived from a combination of emotions, such as affection and desire. Whatever the definition of love, it is usually a positive feeling that leads to happy and fulfilling relationships.

When you fall in love, it means that you find a person who makes your heart sing. They may have a beautiful smile, a great sense of humor or even some spiritual qualities that inspire you. Ideally, you will be able to trust them and see their good qualities in spite of their shortcomings, and they will trust you in return.

One way to deepen your relationships is to share your own passions and learn about the things that matter most to your loved ones. For example, learning to play a musical instrument or cook together can help you bond over shared interests.
