Movie is a motion picture that tells a story on screen. People sit in a theater and watch it with other people. Movies can be comedy, romance, action or drama. They usually have a plot (story). A screenwriter writes the story for the movie. Then actors act out the words and things in the film. A director oversees the whole movie.
Many movies are based on real events. Others are imaginary, such as fantasy or science fiction. Adventure movies often have a hero go on a long journey to fight big things, such as dragons. Romance movies are about people falling in love or having a relationship. Dramas are stories about people with problems or challenges that they need to solve. They can make people cry (feel sad).
Sometimes a movie is made to teach or inspire the audience. It may also have a political message or try to change the world in some way. Movies can be popular or not. Some are blockbuster movies that earn a lot of money at the box office (at a theater). Other movies are very unpopular but still get filmed, such as independent movies.
When you are watching a movie, take notes about the plot and characters. It is helpful to use a notebook or laptop for this. Also think about the film’s locations, costume design, and music. Evaluate the writing by noticing whether the dialogue and character development are good or bad.
