What is a Movie?

A movie is a film that tells a story that entertains or instructs people. It is usually shot in a studio by actors, who speak lines that they have memorized. A cameraman films the actor and takes a picture of each scene. Then, it is edited together to create the final movie.

A good movie has to be able to make people laugh or cry. It needs to have a good plot and characters. It should also have great cinematography (the way the shots are made).

Movies come in different genres, like comedy, drama, and science fiction. Some movies are so popular they can make millions of dollars in ticket sales and DVDs. These are called blockbusters.

There are also smaller movies, which are made by independent or art filmmakers. They are usually not as big in sales, but they can still be very popular. These are called cult movies or indie films.

Some movies are about historical events or mysteries. Others are about real life situations, like a family dealing with divorce. Thrillers use fear to keep the audience interested, and they usually have many twists in the plot (surprises). Dramas are about people in trouble. They often cause people to get upset and cry.

Some movies have a certain style that makes them unique and memorable. For example, the opening scene in Casablanca with its signature line is one of the most recognizable scenes in all of film. Or, the incredible chariot race in Ben Hur is another memorable sequence. Other movies have a particular music or sound that is used throughout the film.
