What Makes a Movie?

The word movie is a general term that can be used to describe any narrative film that’s over an hour long and shown in cinemas. Movies can be fiction, nonfictional or a combination of both. A great movie has many components that come together to make it a satisfying experience for audiences. It’s not just one scene or one line that makes a movie great, it’s the whole story that brings people back again and again. Movies can be about any kind of subject matter including history, romance, drama, action and horror. There are even movies that are based on true events like biopics or war movies.

The most important part of a movie is the script. It has to create an interesting storyline, hold the audience’s attention and tease them with what will happen next. Movies with good writing also have to make the characters feel real and relatable. A good example of this is the Bohemian Rhapsody movie which created great character development through Rami Malek’s performance as Freddie Mercury.

The other parts of a movie are the actors and sets (man-made places in the studio where the movie is made). Actors read the script and say their lines in front of a camera. A video editor makes the scenes into a movie and adds music and sound effects. When the movie is done, it’s put onto reels and sent to movie theaters where it’s shown on a big screen with a projector.
