What is a Movie?

A movie, or film, is a piece of visual art that tells a story and can make people laugh, cry, or feel afraid. A good movie is well crafted in terms of the acting/animation, music/soundtrack, and cinematography (how the scenes are filmed). A great movie makes the audience think about the topic it covers or leaves an impression on them that stays with them. Some movies are very successful and are considered to be ‘blockbuster’ movies, making lots of money for the studios who release them. These movies are usually about a mystery or strange event that the audience needs to figure out and contain ‘twists’ in the plot (surprises). Other types of movies include dramas, comedies, and family movies.

Some films may have a more serious message and are called dramas or tragedies. They usually involve a main character or two and their relationships. Dramas can be about things like divorce, death or war. A good drama is usually sad but has a happy ending. Some dramas are based on true stories.

Sci-fi and fantasy movies often involve magical or impossible things that can’t happen in real life. These movies are a lot of fun to watch because they are so imaginative and creative.
