What is a Movie?

Movie is an art form that uses images to tell a story or teach a lesson. It is also a way to make people laugh (comedy), cry (tragedy or drama) or feel afraid (horror). A movie can be about real life events, historical figures or fictional characters. Some movies are true stories and others are fantasy or based on science fiction. Some movies combine different genres such as drama-comedy or horror-science fiction. The earliest movies were single static shots that showed an event or action without using editing or other cinematic techniques. In the early 1900s, filmmakers began to string several scenes together to create a story and found that they could use sound to convey emotion.

In recent years, big studios have made more and more movies. Some of them are called blockbuster movies because they make a lot of money at the box office and through other sales such as DVDs. Often, blockbuster movies have a happy ending in which all the problems in the plot are figured out or solved and everybody lives happily ever after.

Some movies are filmed outside of the big studio system and are known as independent or art movies. They are more creative or unusual and may have sad or strange endings that do not appeal to the wide audience. They are usually less expensive to produce than the blockbuster movies and they can become popular through word of mouth advertising.

Many successful directors had to work for years before making their first film that became a major part of movie history. Sidney Lumet’s courtroom drama 12 Angry Men is one example.

What is a Song?

A song is a set of words set to music, often meant to be sung or rapped. It can be a poem, an essay or any other text that has been given melodic and rhythmic expression. The bare bones of a song consist of the lyrics and melody that are then supported by additional elements such as backing vocals, harmonies and ad libs.

It can be sung by one solo singer or a group of singers, accompanied by acoustic instruments such as guitars and pianos or orchestrated with a band or other backing musicians. It may also be used as the main music for a theatrical play, musical or opera and in television and film.

The simplest form of song structure is the verse/chorus format. This is the format typically seen in love ballads and popular rock, country and pop songs. The chorus typically repeats the same words and doesn’t differ much from the verse musically. For example Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” both fit this style well.

A bridge is a section of a song that offers a break from the repetition of a chorus by changing the lyrics and music. Often the bridge will have different chords than the verse and chorus and often feature a change of pace. It can be a key element in a song to add emotional depth and variation to the story being told. There are also extended song forms such as the AABA song form and through-composed songs that use a number of different phrasing to convey a single idea over time.
